August 2024 Update

What did the sun say to the beach in August?

“I’m just here to ‘tide’ you over until fall.”

John is back! He will be holding Tech Help during his regular hours unless otherwise noted in the calendar. Please check the calendar before dropping in or call John at (206) 268-6741 to verify his schedule.

Music and Mindfulness is taking a break for the summer. Classes will not be held for the next few months, but don’t worry! Music and Mindfulness will return in September. We will keep you updated as soon as we know the exact days and times.

Here’s some of the exciting things coming this month to Lake City Seniors:

  • Join Silver Screeners for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be Captain Fantastic on August 12th at 1:30pm. Captain Fantastic is about a family in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. In this film, a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education is forced to leave his paradise and enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to be a parent.
  • John will be back with two tech classes this month. General Tech Q&A  will be August 9th at 10am. Join John for a group session where he will answer any tech questions you have. You will work together to troubleshoot problems, clear up confusion, and navigate the digital world with helpful visuals and explanations. Digital Organization will be held on August 23rd at 10am. Learn ways to organize your files on your smartphone and computer. You will go over how to safely store your digital files, how to create folders to organize them, and how to move them between devices. John will show step by step visual examples and explain the options available for all types of devices.
  • On Monday, August 19th Sound Generations will be out to discuss their Minor Home Repair division. Our Minor Home Repair program serves younger homeowners with disabilities, low-income family homeowners, and older adult homeowners who are faced with the challenge of affording home repairs.
  • We will be partnering with the Seattle Public Library to hold another  Civic Coffee Hour August 12th at 1:30pm to discuss Social Connectivity. Join us as we explore how staying connected with friends, family, and community can enhance mental health, reduce feelings of isolation, and contribute to a more fulfilling life.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the program! For more information on our programming, calendar, and lunch menu, please follow the links to the right of the page.

Cheers!
