John is taking parental leave this month. Until he gets back Tech Help will be provided by a volunteer and will have reduced hours. Please check the calendar for exact dates and times. John will be back on Wednesday, June 12th.

Music and Mindfulness is taking a break for the summer. Classes will not be held for the next few months, but don’t worry! Music and Mindfulness will return in September. We will keep you updated as soon as we know the exact days and times.

We also wanted to remind everyone that Annie will not be holding class in person on June 17th. She will be live on zoom on June 17th. We will stream all her class at the church during her absence.

A reminder that we will not hold any programming on Wednesday, June 19th in observation of Juneteenth. There will also be no meals served so please plan accordingly.

We have a lot going on this month at Lake City Seniors.

  • Our Board Game Social Hour has moved to Mondays! Play board games while you enjoy coffee, snacks and socializing with others. We will hold this Social Hour every Monday at 1:30pm. This month, the featured boardgame will be Scrabble.
  • Join Silver Screeners for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be My Man Godfrey (1936) which will be shown Monday, June 10th at 1:30pm. My Man Godfrey is about Godfrey, a “forgotten man” who is hired by a young, wealthy eccentric as the family’s new butler. Godfrey brings sanity a dose of reality to this spoiled rich family.
  • The Hunger Intervention Program will hold another Cooking and Nutrition Class in Chinese. In this class, participants will get to be hands on, learning senior nutrition and making a meal together. The classes will be held June 7th at 10am.
  • Join us for a special presentation from GenPride, Wednesday June 12th at 1:30pm. This presentation is dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for members of the LGBT+ community within our senior program. This interactive workshop will provide valuable insights and practical strategies to ensure inclusivity and support for all participants. Bring your questions and an open mind as we explore ways to show up for our friends and neighbors. Everyone is encouraged to participate and contribute to the discussion. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community. Please note that we will not be holding Bingo or Mahjong on June 12th to help facilitate this event.

May 2024 Update

Why is May always a chaotic month?

Happy May everyone! We hope you are enjoying the longer days and taking advantage of warmer and sunnier weather. We have a lot of updates for you this month.

John is taking parental leave this month. He will be providing tech help until Friday May 10th. Starting Monday, May 13th Tech Help will be provided by a volunteer and will have reduced hours. Please check the calendar for exact dates and times. John will be back on Wednesday, June 12th.

Unfortunately, we will not have health screenings in May due to scheduling conflicts with our provider. We have been assured that health screenings will resume on the second Monday of the month starting in June.

A reminder that we will not hold any programming on Monday, May 27th in observation of Memorial Day. There will also be no meals served so please plan accordingly.

  • Our Cards and Coffee Social Hour has moved to Mondays! Play card and board games while you enjoy coffee, snacks and socializing with others. We will hold Cards and Coffee Social Hour every Monday at 1:30pm.
  • Join Silver Screeners for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be If Beale Street Could Talk which will be shown Monday May 13th at 1:30pm. This movie is about a woman who embraces her pregnancy while she and her family set out to prove her childhood friend and lover innocent of a crime he didn’t commit.
  • The Hunger Intervention Program will hold more Cooking and Nutrition Classes this month in Chinese, English, and Spanish.  In these classes, participants will get to be hands on; learning senior nutrition and making a meal together. The classes will be held May 3rd, and June 7th at 10am in ChineseMay 10th and 17th at 10am in English; and May 24th at 10am in Spanish. No registration  is required to attend these classes.
  • On May 20th at 1:30pm we will have Dockside Cannabis out to lead Cannabis 101, a Medical Marijuana class, where they will discuss cannabis in Washington State and different cannabinoids – including CBD, medical marijuana, and products in the regulated marketplace. Join us for a fun and educational discussion!
  • John will also be holding a Tech Class this month. He will discuss How To Backup Files and Photos on Friday, May 10th at 10am. In this class you will discuss how to make backup copies of your photos and files to keep them safe. John will show visual examples and give specific tips for how to do this.

Elevator Outage at Lake City Seniors

We have received some unfortunate news. The elevator at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church is undergoing repairs and will be out of service while we wait for the shipment of new parts to arrive. The estimated repair time is currently 3 weeks.

While our programming, including community dining, will continue, please note the building will have accessibility limitations. We are committed to accommodating our participants’ needs during this time and will do our best to assist you however we can while the repairs are taking place.

April 2024 Update

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

Spring apparently wasn’t bad either.


Wow March flew by! We hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy the warming weather and cherry blossoms these past couple of weeks. There are some important updates and reminders we wanted you to be aware of.

John will continue to temporarily provide the Ballard Senior Center with tech help. Unfortunately, due to his schedule, he will NOT be available to provide tech help at our program Mondays only until April 22nd. After that, he will be at our program Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please see the calendar to the right for his complete schedule.
 
To ensure that our records are accurate, we will be continuing to ask that everyone fill out an updated contact form this month. We highly recommend providing an emergency contact for our records.

  • We are excited to announce a new Cards and Coffee Social Hour starting in April. Play card and board games while you enjoy coffee, snacks and socializing with others! We will hold Cards and Coffee Social Hour every Friday at 10am starting April 19th.
  • Silver Screeners are back! Join us for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be The Princess Bride which will be shown April 8th at 1:30pm. The Princess Bride is filled with true love, pirates, sword fights, revenge, and Rodents of Unusual Size. Missing this screening would be inconceivable!
  • We will be holding Making Senior Meals Cooking and Nutrition Class on April 19th at 10am in Spanish, and April 29th at 1:30pm in English. Aidyn Stevens, who is an Americorp member serving with Hunger Intervention Program as the Senior Meals lead is teaching this class where participants will get to be hands on; learning senior nutrition and making a meal together. Come join and learn how to put together a nutritious meal and make Tarragon Pesto Pasta with Chicken. 
  • Legal Planning Clinic The Dementia Action Collaborative will be holding a Legal Planning Clinic on Monday, April 29th by appointment. At this clinic you can get free one on one help with an attorney for legal matters such as Powers of Attorney for Finances, Powers of Attorney for Health Care, Health Care Directives, and Dementia Directives. To make an appointment please contact Jill at 425-780-5589. Space is limited and an appointment is required.
  • John will also be holding two tech classes this month. The first will be Organizing Email Accounts on April 12th at 10am. In this class you’ll learn how to organize your inbox and get around your email folders. We will discuss how to write new messages, delete old messages, unsubscribe from marketing emails, and how to block and report spam messages. On April 26th at 10am, he will cover Keeping Your Photos And Data Safe. Here you’ll learn how to keep your photos, files, and data safe so that you can access them if you ever lose your device or have to transfer them to a new device. We will talk about how back-ups work and how you can use cloud storage for easier access.

March 2024 Update

Why is March the most popular month to use a trampoline?

It’s spring-time!

We will now hold Bingo online over zoom as well as in person. If you wish to receive the zoom link each week, please email Justin at justinf@soundgenerations.org or call Justin at 206-707-1865 and provide your email address. If you have participated in Bingo over the phone in the past, the previous number we used will no longer work.

  • United Way of King County will be offering free tax preparation services, including applications for the new Working Families Tax Credit, on Friday, March 8th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Please make sure to bring the following documents: Your photo ID, Social Security Card or ITIN document, Any income documents (W-2, 1099-NEC, etc.), Other relevant tax documents. Please note that they cannot accept prior-year returns as proof of your SSN.
  • Enjoy some tea and a treat and get to know Samaa our Social Worker and newest addition to the team! This is an opportunity to ask any social work or mental health related questions and learn about local resources available for you! This meet and greet will be on March 18th at 1:30pm.
  • We will be holding a vaccine clinic for Flu shots and COVID boosters. This event will be held March 20th from 11am-2pm. The first 5 participants to get either a flu shot or COVID-19 vaccine and volunteer to fill out a survey will be eligible to receive a $50 gift card. Limit to 1 gift card per participant. Vaccination is FREE, no insurance is required. We will have all approved vaccines at this event for anyone 6 months old or older. Walk-ins accepted. No appointment required.
  • The Mobile Community Service Office from the Department of Social and Health Services will be visiting to provide one-on-one help on Monday, March 25th from 10:00am-2:00pm. At this event you can apply for Cash Assistance, Basic food assistance, medical assistance, and the Medicare savings program. You can also drop off paperwork, complete an eligibility review, mid-certification review or make changes to an existing case.
  • Silver Screeners are back! Join us for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be Hunt for the Wilderpeople which will be shown March 11th at 1:30pm. Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a movie about a national manhunt ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.
  • John will also be holding FOUR Tech Workshops in March. These workshops will be a more hands-on version of his classes where he will show you how to perform certain tasks on your own devices in class. On Friday March 8th & 22nd at 10am, John will cover Device Storage Cleaning where he’ll help you clean up old photos, files, apps, emails, and anything else on your devices. On March 15th & 29th at 10am, he will cover Password Organization. In this workshop he will help you reset passwords and provide recommendations and tips for organizing them in notebooks or in password managers.
