February 2025 Update

What do you call an angry carrot?

A steamed veggie.

In case you missed it, we have a fundraiser coming up on Wednesday February, 19th at 6pm at the Watershed Pub and Kitchen near Northgate and everyone is invited. Mark your calendars, bring your friends, and make a difference—one sip at a time! Enjoy award-winning beers from one of Portland’s finest breweries, Von Ebert Brewing, and indulge in delicious food pairings crafted by Watershed’s talented chefs, and help support the programming you love.

Can’t make it to the event? You can still make a difference! A donation of any amount helps sustain our programs. Donate to Lake City Seniors online: https://shorturl.at/K0YcO

John is back! He will be holding Tech Help Mondays and Fridays only from 9am-3pm. To schedule an appointment with John, please give him a call at (206) 268-6741

A reminder that we will be closed on Monday, February 17th for the Presidents Day Holiday. There will also be no lunch that day so please plan accordingly.

Here’s a look at the exciting programming we have going on this month:

  • Join Silver Screeners for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be The Beales of Grey Garden and will be shown Monday, February 10th at 1:30pm. This film is a follow-up to the celebrated 1975 documentary Grey Gardens about Jackie Kennedy’s aunt and cousin, “Big” Edie and “Little” Edie Beale. The Beales of Grey Gardens gives greater insight into the simultaneously contentious and loving relationship between the mother and daughter, as well as their relationship with the young caretaker, Jerry.
  • On Monday, March 3rd at 1:30pm Humana will hold a rock painting class. They will also be tabling on Wednesday, February 12th at 12pm to provide information on Medicare and Medicaid benefits.
  • The Pro Bono Council will be back on Wednesday, February 19th for one-on-one legal planning. At the Legal Planning clinic, you can connect with an attorney for free for legal help completing power of attorney and advance directive documents. An appointment is required. Call (425) 780-5589 to schedule your appointment.
  • King County Metro will be tabling at out center on Friday, February 21st at 1pm to help participants sign up for Orca Cards.
  • Join us for a special Lunch & Learn event on Monday February 24th at 1:30pm with special guests from Race2Equity dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for members and discuss racial equity and social justice at Lake City seniors. In this presentation, we will gain a deeper understanding of our own racial and other social identities and lived experiences to better understand how they impact our relationships and the transition into elderhood. Everyone is encouraged to join. Please note that we will not hold Mahjong on February 24th to help facilitate this event.
  • John will teach a series of classes to help you learn more about your smartphone. Join one, or all of the classes every Friday in February at 10am! The topics will be: Smartphone intro on Friday, February 7th; Smartphone Basics on Friday, February 14th; Smartphone Apps on Friday, February 21st; and Smartphone Hands-On Practice Workshop on Friday, February 28th. NO registration is required.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the program! For more information on our programming, calendar, and lunch menu, please follow the links to the right of the page.
