September 2024 Update

What’s made of leather and sounds like a sneeze?

A shoe!

As you may have noticed, our program is busier than ever before! We are so excited to welcome all the new participants to Lake City Seniors. With our increased participation, we want to be mindful of everyone’s needs and do our best to make Lake City Seniors the most welcoming program we can be.

We recognize that lunch has been busier than usual, and we are working to add more seating. While we work through solutions, we are asking that you do not save seats for people who are not in the building. Saving seats for those who are not here makes new participants feel unwelcome and less likely to return to the program. If you are having trouble finding a seat, please ask David or Aidyn in the kitchen for help and we will find a spot for you.

Here’s a look at the exciting programming we have going on this month:

  • Join Silver Screeners for popcorn and a movie followed by a discussion with a volunteer from Scarecrow Video. This month’s movie will be Valentin on Monday, September 9th at 1:30pm. Valetin is about a youngster who is left in the care of his elderly grandmother after his warring parents abandon him. He struggles to find suitable role models in her small isolated village.
  •  John will be back with two tech classes this month. On Friday, September 13th at 10am he will hold a class called Tips For Searching The Internet. Join us for this class on how to effectively browse the internet while staying safe. We will learn about internet browsers, search engines, cookies, how to find websites, and general tips and tricks for navigating the internet. On Friday, September 27th at 10am his class will be on Password Managers. These are very helpful programs that can organize all your online accounts and passwords. If you are tired of forgetting passwords and resetting them often, come learn a simpler way to keep track of them all.
  • On Monday, September 23rd, the Mobile Community Service Office from the Department of Social and Health Services will be visiting to provide one-on-one help from 10:00am-2:00pm. At this event you can apply for Cash Assistance, Basic food assistance, medical assistance, and the Medicare savings program. You can also drop off paperwork, complete an eligibility review, mid-certification review or make changes to an existing case.
  • The Dementia Action Collaborative will be holding a Legal Planning Clinic on Monday, September 16th by appointment. At this clinic you can get free one on one help with an attorney for legal matters such as Powers of Attorney for Finances, Powers of Attorney for Health Care, Health Care Directives, and Dementia Directives. To make an appointment please contact Jill at 425-780-5589. Space is limited and an appointment is required.
