LISTEN UP! 2019 – An Intergenerational Spoken Word Program!

Spoken word is an oral art form that focuses on the aesthetic of word play, voice inflection and intonation.  It includes any kind of poetry recited aloud such as hip-hop, jazz poetry, poetry slams, traditional poetry readings and even comedy and prose monologues.  Listen Up! is a 3 month-long series of intergenerational and solo workshops in which Seattle youth will partner with community members from Lake City. Inspired by the power of our community’s united voice to inspire change, Book-It is pleased to be partnering with Spoken Word Artist Meredith Arena, Silver Kite Community Arts and students from Ida B Wells Middle College High School in our collective cry to “Listen Up!”
