Here’s a look at the exciting programming we have going on this month:

Moonrise Kingdome is set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, as a young boy and girl fall in love they are moved to run away together. Various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing.
  • John will be back with two tech classes this month. On Friday, July 12th at 10am he will teach a class called Simplify Your Smartphone. Here you’ll learn how to organize your smartphone to make it easier to navigate. We will discuss how to delete apps, turn off notifications, and generally simplify your device. On July 26th at 10am he’ll teach Smartphone Tips and Tricks. Join us and learn some useful tricks on your smartphone. We will show helpful touchscreen motions to navigate your device, tips to save time and reduce frustration, and figure out what all those symbols and icons are.
  • The Dementia Action Collaborative will be holding a Legal Planning Clinic on Monday, July 15th by appointment. At this clinic you can get free one on one help with an attorney for legal matters such as Powers of Attorney for Finances, Powers of Attorney for Health Care, Health Care Directives, and Dementia Directives. To make an appointment please contact Jill at 425-780-5589. Space is limited and an appointment is required.
    • Staff from the Lake City Farmers Market will be holding a discussion on July 15th at 1:30pm. They will talk about how to use your food assistance benefits at the market, including EBT/SNAP and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefits at the market. They will demonstrate how to use your FMNP card with vendors, the Senior FMNP phone app, explain the new EBT/SNAP Produce Rewards system at the market, as well as share upcoming events happening at the Lake City Farmers Market.
  • We will be partnering with the Seattle Public Library to hold a Civic Coffee Hour July 22nd at 1:30pm to discuss Brain Health. Join us to learn from experts and gain valuable insights into maintaining and improving your cognitive health. There will also be snacks and coffee for this event!
  • Join us for a special presentation from The Arc of King County. Join us at Lake City Seniors for a special training by The ARC of King County. We will learn how biases impact our words and the way people with disabilities are treated. If you have a disability, or know, love, and work with people with disabilities, you don’t want to miss this event. Bring your questions and an open mind as we explore better ways to show up for our friends and neighbors. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community.
    • Topics include:

Temporary Closure & Meal Service Update

Dear Lake City Seniors Community,

Due to recent COVID-19 cases among our staff and participants, Lake City Seniors will be closed for programming on Wednesday (6/26) and Friday (6/28) this week. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure everyone’s safety. The building will be disinfected so that programming can resume as normal next Monday, July 1st.

Our partners at Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) will still offer to-go lunches from their van in the parking lot this Wednesday and Friday, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Please come by to pick up your meal.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Stay safe and take care!

Elevator Outage at Lake City Seniors

We have received some unfortunate news. The elevator at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church is undergoing repairs and will be out of service while we wait for the shipment of new parts to arrive. The estimated repair time is currently 3 weeks.

While our programming, including community dining, will continue, please note the building will have accessibility limitations. We are committed to accommodating our participants’ needs during this time and will do our best to assist you however we can while the repairs are taking place.

If you have any questions, concerns, or accommodation needs, please contact the staff of Lake City Seniors by emailing us at lakecityseniors@soundgenerations.org or by calling (206) 268-6740.

We will keep you up to date with any information we receive regarding the repairs.
